Writing and Editing | Amsterdam Area, Netherlands, NL
I am a freelance journalist from the Netherlands, with a special interest in online journalism, innovation and the impact of technology on our society. Currently I work as managing editor for the Dutch news blog Sargasso.nl, one of the oldest blogs in the country, renowned for its cutting-edge take on journalism. It introduced live blogging in the Netherlands in 2004 and put data driven journalism on the map in this country.
I also write stories for various Dutch media outlets on a freelance basis and am research assistant to Professor Jeroen Smit at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. The focus of the research is entrepreneurial journalism. Right now, I am working with Rosalind Franklin Fellow dr. Tamara Witschge on a chapter about entrepeneurial journalism for the yet to be released book Journalism Culture in the Netherlands (revised edition).
Also, I have received a grant from Fonds Bijzondere Journalistieke Projecten (Fund for Special Journalism Projects) to research ways in which journalists can use the deep web.
I am very positive about the future of journalism. Internet based journalism is just at the early stages of its development and it offers an immense scala of opportunities. It’s up to us, my generation, to take those opportunities and change not only the face of journalism, but to change the world.
